Disinterested Charter Organization

Our troop has a most uninterested chartering organization. We have
been with them for 5 years and the only thing they have contributed
to our Scouting experience is their signature on the charter. Three
years ago, they stopped providing a meeting place for us and we found
one on our own. This week, our meeting place was closed to us to use.
I have spoken to our executive and am told that we can look for a new
chartering organization but we take the risk of losing our troop
numbers and equipment. Has anyone had an experience such as ours?
Do any of you have suggestions where to look for a new chartering
organization? We seem to be swamped with schools, churches and
veteran associations who charter many troops in our city. Does
anyone have an unusual chartering organization?
