Kim Moye asked about Wood Badge Beading
We had that problem in our troop (the district seems embarased to
hand them out at Roundtable - about 30 seconds max, mostly singing
Back to Gilwell while the non-WB look confused - for over a year's
work). Leo Hollis (... Antelope), WBSM this summer could not find one
at WBSM training in CA or in any other literature. So we wrote one.
We had six from our troop (including me) getting ours. We ran it like
a Court-of-Honor. It lasted about an hour. We invited the Troop, Wood
Badge Troops, District people and friends. My Coach Counselor drove
164 miles to be there.

Wood Badge SM calls Candidates and Coach Counsellors forward
Asks Coach Counselor(s) "Have they... "( we took about four
questions from from the Kipling poem on the bottom of the Certificate
... something about smelled the wood fire etc.) ... ?" This leads to
... "Have they completed their ticket?" If the Coach Counselors answer
in the affirmative the candidates are arranged facing the audience
with the Scout Sign Raised:
Pledge (we made the following up)
DO SOLEMNLY PLEDGE MY EFFORTS TO
ACHIEVE THE AIMS OF SCOUTING.
I WILL USE THE SKILLS I LEARNED IN WOOD BADGE TO
REACH OUT AND TOUCH EVERY SCOUT,
KNOWING IN MY HEART AND MIND THAT
IF I BUT TOUCH ONLY ONE BOY
THIS WORLD WILL BE A MUCH BETTER PLACE TO DWELL.
MIDST ALL THE FUN OF SCOUTING
I WILL LIVE THE SCOUT OATH AND THE SCOUT LAW.
THIS IS THE FOUNDATION UPON WHICH
THE SCOUTING MOVEMENT RESTS.
THUS, EVERY SINGLE ACT OF THE SCOUTING PROGRAM
THAT I DIRECT MUST HAVE AS ITS AIM
CHARACTER AND CITIZENSHIP DEVELOPMENT.
I WILL FOLLOW THE PRICNIPLES OF SCOUTMASTERSHIP
THAT BADEN-POWELL TAUGHT IN THE
FIRST WOOD BADGE COURSE,
AND WILL CONTINUE TO PROVE MY WORTHINESS
TO WEAR THE BEADS OF A WOOD BADGE GRADUATE
THROUGH MY SERVICE TO SCOUTING.
AS I LEARN TO APPLY MY NEW SCOUTING SKILLS,
I WILL LOOK BACK TO SEE IF ANYONE
ALSO SEEKING SCOUTING KNOWLEDGE
IS FOLLOWING ME.
IF SO, I WILL GO BACK AND HELP THEM.
IF I CAN DO THIS FOR SCOUTING,
I WILL HAVE ACHIEVED ITS GREATEST HONOR.
Back To Gilwell
Hope this helps - let me know
