Queens Council (part of Greater New York) did a Space theme in 1988. It
was a great time. One of the highlights was the patch, the Starship
enterprisen (I don't even want to begin to think of the copyright violations)
with a tent set upo on the top flat part of it.
One of the many fun things we did that weekend were setting up the
campsite in a space theme (I remember my troop covered some of the boys in
tinfoil as robots and hung rocks by thin string so they seemed to defy
gravity.) We also played a game where four ropes were tied to an industrial
strength rubber band. Then one boy got a a rope and pulled. The object was to
get the rubber band around a canaster in the middle of the playing area to a
designated safe zone. The canister held a radiactive material inside and
could not be dropped.
Another event was to lash a large a frame and one scout stands inside
of it. Three ropes are extended from the top and the scouts have to walk the
A frame across the finish line. (we called it the escape pod game)
Be sure to let me know how the cmp-o-ree went off!
