Baden-Powell High Adventure Camp is the BSA Summer Camp program operated
by Channel District, Transatlantic Council at Hesley Wood Scout Centre,
owned by the Yorkshire County Scout Council of the Scout Association here
As a UK Scouter of 25 years standing I have never heard of " snipe hunts"
outside the BSA. I have been on staff at BPHAC for the last six years and
I am not aware of this taking place. If it did then those involved had
the good sense to keep well away from the BSA staff and the camp service
Having served as Camp Commissioner at BPHAC I can assure Laurie that the
staff do not condone any sort of hazing. It is of course contrary to BSA
policy, and it is also contrary to the policy of The Scout Association,
upon whose goodwill BSA relies to provide the premises for the camp.

Not just about ... under English law they may be considered an offensive
weapon. And since the age of criminal responsibility in England is nine
the Scout who had them might have found himself in trouble ... especially
if they had been found in his luggage by HM Customs.
Fortunately in this case the unit leadership recognised the problem and
appear to have acted appropriately. Nobody was hurt and the Scouts learnt
from the experience. That is what it is all about in the end.
