Our troop has been having some hazing problems. At the elections this week,
the candidates were asked their thoughts on hazing and they (the
candidates-older boys) thought it was okay <ARGH>. They were even asked to
put themselves in the shoes of the younger boys and the response was that
it was impossible because they are "older" boys. My husband, a new,
assistant leader with the troop was outraged and gave them a piece of his
mind, including the military's position on hazing.
Following the meeting, the former SM suggested that my husband come up with
some appropriate words of wisdom to share with the boys at their level of
understanding. So far he thought the oath and law would be a good beginning
point. But there needs to be more. This is a group that doesn't wear
uniforms to meetings (a sore point with me). I think being in uniform would
be a visual reminder of the proper way to behave.
I have been trying to search the archives of the SCOUTS-L for hazing topics
but I can't figure out how to do it. I sent the "help" command, but I don't
understand the process of searching. Will someone help me please?
Also, if you have any suggestions on how to approach the hazing problem,
feel freeto send them my way.
BTW, my post to the list about receiving no mail was in conjunction with my
search efforts. I wasn't receiving responses from the listserve database
either. I thought if I sent a message to the list, I could tell if it was
in operation (if I received the message -- which I didn't until today and I
sent it yeasterday).
