Wouldn't the world be a better place if everybody made and kept the Scout
Unfortunately this isn't the case and those outside of scouting often think
we must be mad to make such a promise (and to spend our time, money and
efforts helping other peoples' kids) all for nothing.
Of course, the thing that they do not know is that we do not do what we do
for nothing. The rewards of scouting are much more valuable than mere money.
Those who have never experienced these rewards will never be able to
understand exactly why we go to such lengths in this great game of scouting.
It is very heartening to hear of the "good turns" of others in scouting. It
makes you proud to be a scouter and encourages you to continue to do good
deeds of your own.
Mike Walton's tale of his helping hand leading him into trouble with his CO
was in the best traditions of scouting (trouble with CO aside) and I for one
am very happy to be able to consider Mike to be my brother in this grand game
Thank you Mike for taking the time to share your story with this list.
Yours in the brotherhood of scouting,
