seat, time-wise? For instance, missing a troop committee meeting in
favor of a lodge meeting is probably not the correct priority for a
Scoutmaster. There are other meetings you should attend because, IMHO,
the SM should be there - like PLC meetings, and others, such as
roundtables, that are useful if only to get some face-to-face contact
with others in the District.
Also, if you're wearing many scouting hats, you probably should give
most of them up, at least for a while, to wear the SM hat. My feeling
is that the boys are #1 and if any scouter should be 100% committed, it
should be the SM. There are very few days in which I do absolutely
nothing for the troop. It might be just taking a 5 minute phone call
from a confused scout.
The job of SM is probably the most rewarding volunteer job I can think
of and I highly recommend it. But be prepared (where have I heard that
before?:>) to be a highly visible focal point for a lot of activity.
