Others will tell you details in detail of how to orgainze such a dinner. I
can add that we do use one idea we use that doesn't seem to be from
national. We ask each unit to designate a "Unit Award of Merit" for a
Scouter in their unit. These Scouters are recognized in the program and
introduced and talked about at the dinner and given a certificate. (No,
there is no knot) These are people who have put in extra effort to the
Troop, Pack, Team etc. but won't be receiving the District Award of Merit.
The DAM committee usualy reminds units to designate their unsuccessful DAM
nominees for the unit award.
For the dinner organizers, this award increases interest in the dinner
becuase recipients, their nominators, and friends and families usually
attend. For Scouting, it promotes the atmosphere of dedication and in
hearing some of the work of these people, we get new ideas about things
that can be done improve our units.
