Hi ALL - I've been reading all the notes on your patrol competitions, and
those are some great ideas, but one thought keeps rattling aroung in the back
of my head - what about the rest? What happens to the patrol that gets
obviously out of the "money" early and thinks there is no way to catch up, so
why try? Yes, we do want our scouts to learn to work as a patrol, but isn't
the functional unit the Troop - shouldn't there also be some thought to
patrols working together as a Troop?
As we train our scouts to deal with life after they've left us - we should
also be training them to set goals, and then working together to attain those
goals. How about an "honor" patrol idea - where each patrol sets a goal -
relating to all those areas you're already using ,then working together to
attain that goal throughout the year. If they ALL reach their goals, they are
ALL honored. Think about how proud you'd be as unit leaders with ALL your
scouts wearing that special neckerchief, or patch, or dingle-dangle, etc.....
For what it's worth !
