Recently our troop received the donation of a (newer) HP color inkjet printer
and we were able to try out an idea that's been *nurturing* for years... Making
our own class "B" personalized T-shirts with iron-on transfers printed on a
color inkjet printer. (The time is right for this technology!)
Our Venture Scouts designed their own "Venture Scouting" symbol, and each
Venture crew developed artwork representitive of their activity... this past
year it's been rock climbing/rappelling, skiing/caving, and Canadian canoing.
T-shirts for under $5, leader shirts (with a collar) about $7. Transfer paper
costs about $1 - $1.25 per sheet. Anyone with Microsoft windows has "PAINT",
and can design colorful stuff. Scanned action photos, clip art, etc can also
be incorporated; depending on how creative they want to be.
Tuesday night, at our end-of-summer Troop court of honor, the Venture scouts
received their shirts. Each had their logo over the front right. (we squeezed
six onto each transfer sheet). On the back were their artwork of the crews
they had participated in... whether none, or all three. The six scouts that
moved up into being elegible for venture activities also received their shirts,
with the backs awaiting their first iron-ons. They were proud to receive and
wear them, as they were their own creations and represented wonderful memories.
We now have the capability for each patrol to *personalize* their troop
class B shirts; whether with actual names, nick names, or more.
Anyone else using scout developed iron-on T-shirts in their troops ??
