I feel exactly as YOU do. My sister is having an "open house" on Saturday
(I'll be FAR away on my Cub Woodbadge course) and the invitation she and her
hubby send to over 150 people was "stop by for beer and BBQ", in that order!.
She's insulted that my almost 14 year old son isn't allowed to attend
My husband will be busy here making a "Back-to-School BBQ" for my almost 12
year old daugter. Yet, HE doesn't see a problem with our son going to the
"party". After all, HE trusts Eric not to drink, and as a little guy, he
"tasted" beer on his finger and didn't like it!
This is a serious-drinker crowd! It's not like at home, if hubby and a
friend have a beer once in awhile, like maybe 3 times a year!
On the other hand, I know that my kids will eventually try pot.....we've
discussed it and I've told them they MUST do it at home, if they must
experiment with it at all!!! I want to SEE it and be here to
"supervise"...now, don't misread that! I don't happen to like it!!! I just
don't want them around the corner with some "friends from the neighborhood",
I'd rather they come to me! Same with drinking. I'd be a darned fool to
believe that they will NEVER try it, I want to be informed and aware.
Even tho I'm "old", I'm not too old to remember being a teenager myself!
I will NEVER condone alcohol of ANY kind at an "occassion"...why is it
NEEDED? Can't people have a good time being "aware" of their surrouundings?
Do they really need the "enhancement"?
Right now, the Philadelphia School District is being funded by a tax on
alcohol. When that first went into effect, I questioned the sanity of it.
How do we tell kids that alcohol is a no-no, and yet FUND their education
through people drinking!?!? It's quite contradictory!!!!
As for your original question, I have no answer, sorry! Just wanted to stick
in my own $.02 on the overall subject of alcohol around ALL kids!
