I REALLY liked your response to Carol and have made copies for our leaders.
A lot of the times it is hard to step back and not "assist" or "guide"
your own child. In my troop, the Scouts whose parents are leaders (for
the most part) are going to another leader before approaching their own
parent. Most of these Scouts also address us the same way that the other
Scouts do (ie: my son addresses my husband (his stepfather) as Mr. Pullen
and me as Mrs. Jensen).
Right now, I don't see that we have a real problem with parents being "too
helpful" with their sons, but maybe in the future or with a future group it
will be different. I'll be placing your letter in a prominent position in
the troop room.
