We tried this a while ago. The boys did *not* like the kits (too much
like Cubs.) We dumped the idea after a month or so.
On the original subject of this thread...
Our Committee (Committee members sit on Boards of Review) schedules
Boards on the night of the third meeting of the month. SM or ASMs,
though, must tell them at least two weeks prior, or the Boards are
cancelled. When a boy passes a Board, he is announced to the Troop at
our closing ceremony. He gets his badge at the next meeting.
Courts of Honor are held quarterly. The boys are called individually to
receive rank and MB cards.
We do not 'teach' Merit Badges. We do hold classes which, if the Scouts
attend, will enable them to have *some* of the requirements signed off.
The classes usually take about 20-30 minutes of the meeting. During
this time, the New Scout Patrol meets with the Troop Guide and the ASM
for New Scouts to practice skills.
