Pranks and Good Sense

Perhaps others on the list received the same e-mail that I did asking for
help in sending embarassing postcards to a JLT in Dan Beard Council (see
below). If you did, I would encourage you not to respond.
While intended in good fun, humiliation can have unintended consequences
for the victim and for others who see it and do not want to be similarly
humiliated. Not everyone has a good sense of humor about this sort of
thing when on the receiving end.
How many of you have known a prankster that loved to pull a stunt on
someone else, but reacted poorly when it was the other way around? How
many have known young people who would do almost anything to avoid being
embarassed in public? In the latter case I've met very few.
There is always room for good humor, great wit, and funny escapades,
especially when the fun doesn't depend on humiliating somebody. Again I
would discourage participation in this sort of thing. Far better to get
a laugh by sharp wit or funny antics . . .
