Any kid who takes prescribed medication needs a CLASS TWO medical -
particularly for Controlled Drugs.
I usually ask the <kids> to tell me in confidence if they have any
medical conditions. I make no secret of the fact that I have ADHD ...
it's nothing to be ashamed of, it's just that about five percent of us
have our brains wired up slightly differently ...
This year I had the provisional troop on Summer Camp and I asked all the
kids to let me know if they had any problems, and I mentioned bedwetting.
I did have one kid who had an " accident " and it was dealt with without
any fuss ... I always have a spare sleeping bag.
I think a lot of it comes down to having a good relationship with the
kids so they feel they can trust us ... from the figures I saw about 1:20
twelve year olds has some degree of nocturnal eneuresis, so we can expect
to get one or two in any troop.
Likewise about 1:7 kids is asthmatic and about 1:20 will have some
degree of AD/HD, about 1:60 will have a severe behavioural problem.
Leaders should be aware of this ... it goes with the territory that we
will have kids with special needs of some sort or another.
