Ashes to Ashes...

I am newly returned to the scout program after 10-odd years, having
wasted my twenties with other pursuits. One fond memory from my
scouting youth was a campfire ceremony in which ashes were collected and
joined with the ashes of previous campfires -- they were co-mingled and
a sample of the result saved to join with the next campfire. A record
was kept of all the places the ashes had been, and if I remember right,
our ashes spanned several decades and had been around the world a few
Now I am an adult leader and I would like my troop to participate in
this tradition. Does anyone have some "experienced" ashes they would be
willing to share with a new troop?
