I think a lot of people get hung up on being in "correct" uniform. I saw
a jamboree picture but not one boy was wearing a merit badge sash on his
I certainly prefer that people wear their uniform properly but I also know
that a lot of troops just have to do their own thing when it comes to
uniforms. What they wear during troop meetings doesn't concern me as much
as how they present themselves in public. The unit variances should
not be carried to district, council, or public events.
As a youth, we wore merit badges on our belts. We thought it was cool and
didn't know any better. When someone reported--politely--that they had
learned that this was not correct, we simply discontinued the practice.
Instead of wearing the MB sash on our belt every meeting, we simply wore
them over the shoulder at formal events. It was certainly a lot less hassle
for all of us!
