As a Scoutmaster for the Council wide JLT for 2 years, I know
that there is a return on sending that young man to it. All that is
needed is to "let him do it"> I know that it is hard to let them but if
you don't then you have wasted the money to send them. I too, have a
small troop and we sent one young man and he has done wonders for our
troop and mostly he has done wonders for himself.
There is continuing education with the Troop JLT, are you using
that? Also for the Council JLT there is a "ticket", so to speak that the
young man wrote at the conclusion of the course. This ticket is much like
an adult Woodbadge ticket. Review this with him if you see him waning.
This is a great reminder to the youth member that he promised himself
that he was going to accomplish something.
[ off of soap box} Sorry about carrying on so much, but I really
believe in the Council wide JLT, in our Council we call it Whitefire and
many a young man has grown from that course.
