still had a catalog) and have your order to your door in three to four days
and it takes National Supply four days to just key in the order???!!!!
That's actually pretty easy to understand. Penny's and Sears (when they
carried our stuff) carry an inventory of their own.
That is what makes them a department store. They do NOT
go to National when you order an item, but to their own inventory, as they
do for everything one orders there.
On the other hand, when we order from National, our orders come in with the
distributor inventory orders as well as thousands of others. Having worked
in an inventory control situation --- and with no possible way to truly
guess correctly ---- everyone
should be able to see that when an inventory order comes in from Penny's,
it will deplete our stock for a bit.
As far as School night supplies - they are sent to local councils directly
from Texas, not National Supply, usually in June. Since
as a membership chairman, I know a full 18 months ahead of time
when our school nights will be concentrated, it is not unexpected
that I am ordering my materials through my DE (not the trading
post) months before they are actually ready. Guess some of
that Woodbadge training stuck!

Council Service Center two weeks ago to pick up a copy of Scoutmastership
Fundamentals Training and was told it had to be ordered from National.
That -- I am afraid may be your local council problem. Tbe council
training committees do sometimes require that NO ONE but a trainer gets a
manual (that is -- they are listed as a trainer somewhere) and/or the local
council decides not to carry the manuals until needed (not a great rush for
manuals usually) and/or your council is trying to keep down their order
In any case, I can get you one (as most can), just tell me what you need,
I'll walk into one of THREE local council offices
around and get a copy for you and send it off.
This -- by the way -- is not always a National Supply problem. They did
have trouble earlier this year when they totally changed
computer system --- but then we all do when that happens. I am
getting my supply within two weeks of ordering.
