In our troop, for as long as I've been there (8+ years), the SPL has been a
year long duty. It seems that it takes a kid at least 9 months to get
going, and by the time the year is up, "I feel like I just learned what to
do!" as more than one SPL has said.
In our troop, the term runs September to end of August, with elections
being held in June (but the SPL-elect is lame-duck until the PLC Planning
Retreat in late August)
