Mike Bowman made some suggestions regarding a "knot" to recognise members
of GSUSA who had received their Gold Award, and branched out further to
make a suggestion of a knot to recognise those who have received awards in
non-BSA scouting organisations.
A thought that came to mind for me - perhaps it would be appropriate to
have a badge the same dimensions and worn in the same position as the
square knot badges, but without actually including a square knot. This
would make it clear that it does not represent a BSA award. Further, I
would suggest just two badges - one blue with a gold trefoil to represent
an award from a WAGGGS organisation, and the other purple with the WOSM
symbol (fleur-de-lis inside rope circle) in white for an award from a WOSM
organisation other than BSA. This would also provide some guideline of the
awards that may be recognised in this way; I would suggest that they may
only be an award from a WOSM/WAGGGS organisation and that the award must be
one that is recognised to be of an equivalent or higher level to Eagle
(e.g. Queen's Scout, GSUSA Gold Award, Chief Scout, etc.)

I have a couple of friends here who are eagles who proudly wear their eagle
square knot on the left sleeve in the usual position for the Queen's scout
badge. This was approved by out branch Chief Commissioner.
