Don Dillon asked about Boy Scout Road, located on the western end of
Augusta, Georgia and hugs in a couple of places the Augusta National Golf
course, the site of the annual Masters' Golf Tournament:
>While driving along I-20 (moving from atlanta to Charleston,SC) I pulled
>off in Augusta to get a bite to eat, I noticed a sign for Boy Scout Road
>and decided to take a drive down it to find the camp or council office
>that was surely located on it.
You were disappointed as I was the first time I drove down that road. I
used to live right off Boy Scout Road about a couple of blocks before the
main intersection with (I believe the name was Washington Road?) the main
street into town/to the Interstate.
>I didn't find anything Scouting related on the road. Did I miss
>something or is there a history to that particular road.
Locals tell me that a long time ago, before the spread of the city westward,
at the end of the road was a small Boy Scout Camp for the black kids in the
Georgia-Carolina Council. I wasn't able to find anything resembling a camp
while I went down and back up the street, but I can see how urban spawl can
get rid of a camp.
