Can't really add much to what Mark just posted (he was on the money
about the biggest thing...KEEP IT SHORT). While it's NOT necessary for
current Cubs to attend, we always found it helpful and fun for them.
They MUST wear their uniforms and are all given jobs...handing out
forms, pencils, answering questions, occupying younger siblings,
pointing people to the correct tables.
Remember that most rookie parents don't have a clue what "Tiger, Wolf or
Bear" are. Put out large signs listing school grade instead.
All current leaders should be around in uniform. Watch for that parent
at a table who either hangs around a bit or talks to everyone... THAT's
your new Den leader.
We found that a video compiled of many parents efforts throughout the
previous year was REALLY popular running in the corner with a Cub
standing next to it to explain what they were looking at. (Most schools
will provide an A/V cart if you ask and if you MEET at a school.)
Don't sweat the details much... it's kind of a madhouse with people
coming and going. Just be sure to get names and numbers and at least
LOOK like you know what you're doing.
And please don't tell anyone "It's only an hour a week."
