Stephen White asked about the Bill Spurgeon Award:

The William Spurgeon Exploring Award is presented to Exploring leaders for
their service to the Exploring program on the local Council level. Many
have stated it is the Exploring equal to the Silver Beaver, but many
Exploring leaders have also been awarded the Silver Beaver Award for service
to youth through a local Council.
The Spurgeon Award consists of a plaque or lapel pin (or both, depending on
the local Council's budget) and the square knot for wear on either the
Exploring field uniform (the green uniform shirts) or the khakitan field
There are national and local Council versions of this award. The national
awards are usually presented during the National Exploring Conference.
Unlike the Silver Beaver, Antelope and Buffalo Awards and the
District/Division Award of Merit, the Spurgeon Awards are not administered
through the National Court of Honor.
Because it is an adult award, only those over 21 years old are eligible.
They must have served in a leadership role within the local Council or
within a unit for at least five years (recommended); or a business,
professional or community leader whose activities have supported Exploring
for the same equal lenght of time. If an organization is recommended, they
should have made an unusual contribution to Exploring or to a specific
program area (interest area) within Exploring.
Most Councils do not have a formal nomination form; a simple letter to the
Chair of the Council's Advancement Committee or to the Chair of the
Exploring Committee or Vice President for Exploring (depending on how your
Council is organized) is enough to nominate a person for this special award.
If an organization receives the Spurgeon Award, those Exploring or Scouting
members of that organization DO NOT GET to wear the square knot emblem;
that's reserved for those that have received the Spurgeon Award as
Hope that helps you out!
