If you are driving to Jamboree from out-of-state, there are couple of
new Virginia traffic laws about which you should know, both of which
went into effect on 1 July 97.
- When driving in rain, mist, fog if you are using your windshield
wipers, you must also turn on your headlights.
- In addition to front seat passengers who are required to wear seat
belts, and children under 4 years or 40 pounds who must ride in
size-appropriate child restraint seats, now all children over 4 years/40
pounds and 16 years or younger must wear seat belts. Violation is now a
primary offense (i.e., you may be stopped and ticketed for seat belt
violation -- previously you could only be ticketed for seat belt
violation is stopped for something else). [Yes, I know that the BSA
Tour Permit requires EVERYONE to wear seat belts, but families coming
for day visits and many staffers driving themselves will not be
traveling with Tour Permits. :< ]
