Hello from the "sunny" Rocky Mountains,
Troop 63 of Louisville, CO. just returned from it's first summer camp
ever. We camped at Ben Delatour Scout Ranch. We experienced the
double whammy of having Week 1 and being a new Troop. Add to that the
fact that the $3M rehab of the Kitchen was 'almost' complete and I
needed four different parents to cover the second adult for the week
and you have a recipe for trouble.
I did exactly what I have learned from members of the list and let my
SPL handle the Scouts. This let me do the paper work and
coordination. Boy did the SPL ever come through! He decided that
since he was the only Scout that had attend this camp before that he
was only taking COPE and the rest of the time would be in camp to help
"his Scouts". As a result I also nailed down a Committee Chair, ASM
and Campout parent. Thank you John.
The camp staff did a great job of feeding 350+ Scouts, adults and
staff members for every meal with an incomplete kitchen, keeping the
campers spirits up and dishing out a lot of Scout Sprit. Even with a
visit from the National Camp Inspection Team. Congratulations to them
and the director "Big Ed".
Every Scout had, in there own words, had a great time. Out of the
five new Scouts and three older Scouts we now have a new Second Class
and two new Tenderfoot Scouts.
