how many (pack) meetings per month

Hi Pat and All!
My Wolf year we met on Weds., the same day as the Pack Meeting. We all
live pretty spread out from the school so we met 3 meetings/month, the 4th
Weds. being the Pack meeting. I looked forward to months with 5 weeks.
This year we met on Thurs. and I told the parents I'd like to meet every
week for a couple reasons 1) we always felt rushed to acomplish
achievements AND whatever our responsibility for the Pack meeting was
(skit, song, opening/closing) 2) As we were rushed, we rarely got the
games in 3) because the boys ride the school bus to my house, it is a
consistant schedule - every Thurs. I go to the Mussler's 4) for the
working parents, it was an easier day care arrangement. 5) I believe
meeting more frequently improves attendance, not detracts from it. If we
meet every week, I don't have parents trying to squeeze in after school
sports, piano lessons etc. on the same day we do Scouts. I had excellent
attendance for den meetings, BTW; not as good attendance for Pack meetings
this year. I suspect the week we have den AND pack, parents get tired,
and it's a lot, so we skipped a few Pack meetings. They never skip den.
As for planning, it wasn't any more planning. I was planning too much
before and couldn't get all that FUN, great stuff in so the extra week
helped me get in Ethics in Action and more games without stressing me
because we weren't able to advance or have crummy looking projects. We
did drop the meeting during the Pack meeting week in April and May because
we had already earned our Bear in February and had a significant number of
arrow points already.
Oh, BTW, having the extra week where we live is helpful because of school
cancellation. We lost 1 or 2 meetings because of this and without the
extra week, we would never have been able to practice our flag ceremony.
Hope that helps.
