To those of you who didn't realize that I was speaking of Stock Car
racing, sorry. For those that did, thanks.
But another thought has occured to me - first, I also would not take my
Pack to a horse or dog race. For a couple of reasons, not the least of
which is, we don't do that stuff in Southwestern VA. But I remember
some very enjoyable trips to both Del Mar and Saratoga Springs when I
was a boy. What is it about taking our Scouts to the horse track which
is wrong? Is it just because betting takes place there? In that case,
do you stop for gas with your Scouts in the car? After all, in every
gas station I've been in lately, they sell Lotto tickets.
I guess the greatest reason (other than the fact that there are no horse
or dog tracks around Roanoke) that I wouldn't take the Scouts is that I
don't think that they would enjoy it very much. My sisters and I were
'horse kids.' My son and his friends are NASCAR nuts (he's thrilled
with this afternoon's results from Califonia, by the way!)
