Once the paperwork has been submitted and approved (by BSA National) for
the Heroism Award, you should take every opportunity to acknowledge this
young man (ie: Pack Meetings, Camporee's, District Dinner, Council Dinner,
City Council Meetings, Church, etc.) In addition, you, or your council
should issue a press release about it as well (that the boy has received
the award, which would still be timely). You may also want to check with
your sponsoring organization, they too may have an award to give him
(through their organization) and/or want to recognize him as well. Finally,
letters to the president, governor, local politicians, and celebrities will
usually elicit a response from them to send letters of congratulations to
the young man. Check your local council and ask them for a "Eagle List",
the list they use for getting letters for new Eagle Scouts, it would be the
same for this.
