Knives: For all the policy, or emphasis on safety, Boys Life's adver-
tizement standards leave much to be desired. The ads
display everything from boot knives to combat knives to
switch-blade look alikes - the display of which could
cause a defensive over-reaction. WHY???
The least desireable feature of a Standard Leatherman is the
knifeblade, because it isn't lockable. Some of the
newer models are lockable - but heavier and more
S**ting in the Woods:
I've taken ten(10) feet of 2" nylon webbing and sewn on a
2" Fastex buckle at one end leaving the other end loose
to weave through the other half of the buckle. You can
running loop along the loose end to hold the slack.
Wrap it around a tree trunk, snap it shut, position
yourself, dig a small hole with your spade, drop your
pants, and lean back in comfort with both hands free.
When done reverse the process. Under most
circumstances you need only one of these contraptions
and a (plastic) spade per patrol. Carry in a zip-lock
bag. Paper is carried by the individual. Lightweight.
When not in use it can be used to teather other things.
