What's up with Cubs & Summer anyway?

Somehow, I get the distinct impression that most (if not all) parents in my
pack have the idea that the Cub Scout program "disappears" during the summer
months. Is this or has this been BSA policy? Although I understand that this
is when parents plan vacations, I believe that this is the time of the year
that kids & parents alike need Cub Scouting more than ever.
As can be seen on the Calendar page on our website, we have 4 scheduled
Pack activities which were announced (& handed out in a "newsletter") at our
May Pack meeting- all National Summertime Pack Award stuff.
At that time, it was also announced that there would be no Pack meetings
during June & July, there WOULD be regular committee meetings and the den
leaders would determine whether or not their dens would meet during these
My den is meeting (on a "reduced schedule"- 2 times per month). At Cub
Leader Training, I heard mention of a "12-month Den Award". That would look
nice on the den flag!
