I saw someone use some barrery-powered "candles" once. They used "AA"
batteries like small flashlights. I think they came from a craft shop.
I've also seen real candles placed in paper bags (lunch-size, white if
you can get 'em) which have 2-3 inches of sand inside. This holds the
candle upright and snuffs the fire when the candle burns down to the
sand. Nice effect at night. But it does involve a real flame.
