Maybe I got this all wrong but I have always viewed the "Scout Spirit"
requirement as a tool to be used during the Scoutmaster conference to get
the boy to assess his values and interactions with other people both in
and out of Scouting. It's kind of a soul-searching thing and I ratchet it
up a couple of notches each conference as the boy progresses on rank.
It's also that magical disiplin tool that everyone seems to be looking
for in that other string on hazing. I use it when I have to "talk" with a
boy that has exausted the PL or SPL and I encourage the boys to use
"Scout Spirit" as their main tool to settle conflicts. A line I like to
use is instead of counting to ten stop and ask yourself if the act your
about to commit would violate the Scout Law or count to 12.
