I understand Rodger Morris' reasoning. What I don't understand is how ANYONE
can ever forget that they have a loaded handgun in their possesion. In your
case, Rodger, you forgot about a piece of military standard issue hardware.
When loaded handguns become a civilian standard issue...I'm outta here.
Let's think about this: For this sort of oversight to occur, the item must
become "standard issue" to that person, like the pen in your pocket. It's
always there. You become so used to it being there that you don't think
about it. It's just part of your gear. I don't think I want a CSE who is so
used to carrying a loaded handgun that he just forgets about it.
On the other hand, maybe it's not "standard issue" for Jere. I think I would
prefer a CSE with the presence of mind to remember when and where he is
carrying a lethal weapon.
And before the flames start, yes, I would expect this of any Scouter,
volunteer or professional. In fact, I would expect this more from a Scouter
than from anyone.
