Apology for Redneck Jokes.

Please accept my heartfelt apology for what was a very inappropriate
action on my part. It was thoughtless, totally lacking in mature judge-
ment. I should never have sent such a LOADED message to the List.
And, now that I have your attention, let me get serious.
Most Scouts & Scouters are totally unaffected by what is going on with
the Chief Exec. Most people involved in scouting couldn't even tell you
his name or where the Nat'l Office is. What they can tell you is what
scouting means to them. And it has nothing to do with the Nat'l Office,
E-Board or Officers.
The BSA's reputation is made in the units. It's the kind of experiences
the kids & adults have in their Troops, Packs and Posts that decide what
they think of scouting.
At least two Professionals have told me in the past: "If you have a
problem, put it in writing, send it to the correct person in authority and
SIGN it, otherwise, it isn't important enough to you for us to worry about."
Folks, we can continue to discuss this thread, make bad jokes about it,
and even fight over it. But it's just so much rhetoric. Those of you who
are serious, send your message to the Nat'l E-Board, not to Scouts-L.
You have to remember, this list has NO official standing with the BSA.
And even though it may be read, it's the letters being sent to Nat'l that
are being taken seriously.
So, let's get back to what Scouts-L does best: providing practical support
to the scouts & their leaders! The first discovery every new member of
Scouts-L makes is that the problems they face are the same everywhere
else. It's the Solutions, what works, what doesn't, how to make some-
thing work better that they are looking for. That's where Scouts-L makes
the difference. And it's at the units where our reputation is built, that
difference is felt the most.
Yours In Scouting,
Jan Bemis, CR Pack & Troop 28, Worcester MA
BTW, first I thought how much Mr Ratcliffe needs Gun Safety Training.
To me, Gun Safety Training = NRA. But I can certainly understand
the NRA not wanting any association with Mr Ratcliffe. My apologies.
#3 Should have read: He's the "Poster Child" for Gun Safety Training.
