I have been asked by a Chartered Organization Representative an interesting
question concerning "adult fundraising". It seems there is an assistant
Scoutmaster in the unit that wants to have access to the same fund raising
opportunities that are given the Scouts. The assistant Scoutmaster does not
feel he needs to pay expenses out of his own pocket and wants to use the
fund raising opportunities to cover his Scout expenses.
The troop committee is opposed. The assistant Scoutmaster is making waves
and rocking the boat.
The bottom line appears to be that the assistant Scoutmaster wants minimal
out-of-pocket expense in his volunteer duties. And he expects to have his
expenses covered either by reimbursment from the troop or adult fund raising
I would appreciate the valued judgement of Scouts-L:
Please post to me directly with the topic "Adult Fundraising" and a YES or
NO in the body of the post to the following question:
Should an adult leader be permitted to participate in unit fund raising to
pay for his or her own Scouting expenses?
I will tally the responses and post to the group.
As a side bar I would appreciate any discussion on the subject posted
directly to Scouts-L.
Thanking you in advance.
