To all the 950+ JAMBO97 email listers, and the masses from SCOUTS-L from
around the United States of America and the world:
We are 1997 JAMBOREE TROOP 528 from Southeastern Pennsylvania, north of
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. YOU WILL WANT TO SEE THIS!!
WHAT AM IMPRESSIVE GATEWAY WE HAVE !!!!
Our JAMBO97 Troop 528 has now completed our first camping weekend. Of
course we had rain. (THAT IS WHY I HAVE ADOPTED THE EMAIL NAME OF
RAINMAN, it always rains when I arrange an outdoor outing....).
We assembled and painted our gateway indoors at the Upper Gwynedd
Community Center this weekend.
Everyone who saw it was extremely impressed! We have a replica of the
Memorial Arch in Valley Forge Park, in surburban Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania. It stands 12 feet high and is about 12 feet wide as well.
It is now textured (like the stone the real one is made of) light grey.
It kind of takes you back when you first see it. We will add color and
flags, bright color decals from the BSA, including lights (solar
powered) and a lighted sign that tells who we are(also solar powered).
It all folds up into a pile that is 4'x8' by 3 feet high. It is also
not that heavy, and is easy to assemble and disassemble. It took all of
us to take it down last night. We also trained the scouts on how to
erect and care for this monster! We also have a Liberty Bell on it's
own stand that is about 4' high.
Together, there will be no questions to anyone that we are from
You may view a picture of it shortly on its new web page. It will be a
picture in progress, as the color and signage has not yet been added.
If you are from another part of the jamboree, please stop by and visit!!
Thank you to Bill Miller (a professional at wood working) and Mr. Ken
Johnstone, and Joe Flury for their hard work at designing, planning and
building our gateway!!! (all Troop 528 dads...we used our resourses
wisely) It also did not cost us one nickel...as we were able to get the
materials totally donated !!!!!!!
Thanks to all the dads who helped us paint the gateway this weekend!! It
was a job well done!
