I have been a District Vice Chairman and the District Chairman before
settling into District Commissioner last October. Having worked on the
Council budget I can assure you that no additional fees are allowed to
be attached to the registration or charter.
As a Friends of Scouting presenter I know the feeling of not being
allowed into a unit or worse, giving the presentation with no results
because the unit leaders advised the parents ahead of time not to
But, we must remember that the units are not here to serve the District.
They are here to provide the program to the Scouts. The District is here
to support the units. The District Finance Chairman should find ways of
reaching his goals outside of the Scout Units.
If we realize that we are here to support the units and get rid of the
attitude that they are getting a free ride (remember that they are the
ones who are working with the boys), the attitude of those units can be
changed. When the units see that the District is there to help them,
they will begin to work with the District.
Gary Burkhardt - a good ole owl, too!
