I've been following the thread on time limits for earning merit badges.
I counsel a number of badges, some of which are relatively easy until you
get to that one tough requirement, which is sometimes out of the scout's
hands. A boat trip, more nights of camping, another backpacking trip, a
troop mobilization, whatever.
Scouts have come to me with unfinished blue cards begun a year or more
ago, sometimes on a badge they started with another counselor. Sometimes
my records or memory are deficient, or there are no records at all.
So what? The only record I really need is the blue card. That will tell
me what requirements remain to be completed. I have no problem helping
the scout finish up, regardless of how long ago he started. I'm not sure
why this is a problem for others. Am I missing something?
