[up on soapbox]
In my previous incarnation as Chapter Advisor I was always pushing for
meaningful meetings. We are all too busy to attend just for the joy of
meeting. A meeting for members (as opposed to a board or committee meeting)
needs to have:
1-- Something valuable to discuss/do. Don't meet just because it's time for
the monthly meeting.
2 -- Something to attract people. Have a speaker or program--something of
interest to the Scouts. Think about having a field trip as a meeting.
Devote the meeting to Brotherhood advancement. Do something more than
sitting and talking
3 -- Think about moving around the time/place if it will help reach more
people. We had our biggest meetings at camporees; we saw people we didn't
see any other time. One thing that bugs me abou my present Chapter is that
the meetings are only at Roundtables--if you work Roundtable nights as I do
there is almost no communication from the Chapter to the member.
4 -- Don't forget to feed them!
Hope this helps.
