We just discussed this at Roundtable last Thursday:
The consensus was that the Scoutmaster should mail letters inviting
letters of congratulation for the boy. Ideally, they should be mailed
back TO the SM, but addressed to the boy. The SM should then get funds
from the family and/or troop to frame some of these letters.
Places which we knew would send letters: Daughters of the American
Revolution, NRA, The President of the United States, your congressman and
senators, the mayor of your town, invite your city councilman/alderman to
attend, the governor (to write a letter) etc. All of these, based on the
varied experiences of our Roundtable attendees WILL write letters to the
boy. But, be sure to plan plenty ahead. It may take, for example, a
month or two for the President to write back. Plan accordinginly.
