My council office is also several miles away (45 one way ) but my
DE is in the district and I have never had a problem with asking to have
things brought to me or to a closer meeting place. So distance is not a
problem when it comes to getting the stuff I need. Also, all
publications are listed the National Catalog and can be ordered. My
point is that we should be sharing CORRECT information and that the place
to go for the CORRECT information is the publications put out by the BSA.
I hear some folks have problems with the DE or others thinking
the info should be kept as a deep dark secret and I hope that is the
exception rather than the rule. For answers to those folks I suggest
only those with the CORRECT info should answer.
My council is rather large and some folks are a few hours away
from the office or Scout Shop but some of the SCOUT SHOPS have satelite
stores and they are more than willing to get the publications needed and
don't save them for special occaisions like to make someone feel
important because he/she has the information you need. Where there is a
will, there is a way to get the info we need. The challenge of getting
the info other than from "the important person" should be fun to meet.
What more fun than to have the info and share it willingly and openly to
show the Scouting Spirit.
