If you live in the USA and you, your son in Boy Scouts, or daughter in
Explorers are planning to go to the World Jamboree in Chile, you will need
deep pockets. The current estimated costs begin at $3,893. The cost
depends on the side trip you take, which is determined by the Region you are
in. The costs are:
$3,893 Santiago de Chile
$4,255 Costa Rica - Central Region
$4,294 Puerton Vargas
Sorry, I don't know how regions match up with trips other than the Central
Region. I have also not heard of the last two places and wonder if there
are typos in the names.
Although originally there was talk of not requiring a side trip, this seems
to be going by the way side.
An interesting sidelight is that the cost for Canadian Scouts is only $3,750
(Canadian dollars), which amounts to $2,730 USD. Maybe all of us in the BSA
should join Scouts Canada for this trip.
