I'm new to this board and thought that I'd introduce myself. I've been
active as an adult Scouter for some 12 years now, holding at one time or
another the positions of: WL, CA, CM, RTS, CC, MC, SA, SM, EA. I was
involved in resusitating a dying Pack, and we went on to start a Troop and
Post! Having had a great experience in Cubs and a poor experience in Boy
Scouts as a youth (poor troop program) I was determined to provide a great
program in our units. My three boys have enjoyed the program, and it has
allowed me to spend lots of quality time with them. Yes, I'm a believer.
In the Troop, we're trying very hard to put ourselves out of a job as adult
leaders, and I think that the boys are getting the idea, a little. Little by
little the reins of leadership are being turned over to them, and the result
is a joy to behold. Well, sometimes!
I am a widower and am currently raising my three teenagers alone, while
holding down a job and serving as both Scoutmaster and Explorer Advisor (no
it's not so bad- the Explorers run their own program!). So I don't buy
excuses from people who say that they're too busy! And yes, I'm having a
blast!! Best jobs I ever had.
And I salute all of you who give tirelessly of yourselves so that a boy may
someday grow up to be a BIG man.
Yours In Scouting,
