<< Dear Ed,
Could you give me an update on Jeff Elliot? He's been in our
prayers since Wednesday. Thank you! >>
To everyone on Scouts-L & on Thundernet who was worried about Thunder Scout
Reservation's Program Secretary & Troop 12 Assistant Scoutmaster Jeff Elliott
who was hit head on by a drunk driver last Monday:
Jeff had successful surgery Thursday and will be at the Griffin Hospital for
a few more days to be followed by 5 - 7 more weeks of rest and recovery at
home. The guy who hit him was charged with DUI & Driving without Insurance.
Jeff's hospital room is decorated with stuffed Bears from his Woodbadge
Patrol (he is still working on his ticket), lots of cards, and a page of
E-Mail messages that we print out at Camp Thunder and send him every day.
Our Scout Executive & a good bit of both the summer camp & professional staff
has been by to visit, I think they were shocked at all of the messages from
Scouters all over the country that have written to Jeff with encouraging
letters to get better. I think just about all of the scouts in my troop
have been by as well, we had a bunch visit the state capital on Tuesday as
Pages and they all stopped by to visit.
I want to thank Gary Herndra for trying to set Jeff's Scouts-L to no mail but
it was too late, that stuff fills up fast (can you just wonder how much fuin
it would be to wade through six weeks of this stuff?). Get well messages can
still be sent to Jeff in care of Camp Thunder at THUNDERBSA@aol.com. Our
summer camp Program Director, Greg Ferguson, is staying up from Orlando until
Jeff can get back on his feet at Camp where he is temporarily filling in for
him. Greg has even agreed to be a temporary Asst. Scoutmaster for our troop
for the next six weeks, I explained to him that was part of the deal (LOL).
As for Jeff, he wants me to schedule a Traffic Safety Merit Badge class when
he gets better so he can preach the virtues of Seat Belts to my troop. Thank
God Jeff was wearing one or he would not be with us right now.
Retired from Camp Thunder staff (but I still spend all of my time down there)
