A lighter side tale...
Pack pinewood derby. Lots of *boy* cars. Some apparent *extra help* cars.
A *challanging* webelo, previously not interested in racing, brought along
by single mom along with younger son, finally gets bored. Asks if there are
any more car kits available. (Younger brother has a boy-made car)
Sure! Here's one.
Better hurry, registration closes in xxx minutes & races start.
Car is assembled in record time. "Do you have any colored markers?" he asks.
Sure! Here's a few colors.
Get that car over to the weigh-in table and have some weights added!
Some hot glue to hold on the donated tire weights, some markers, a little
graphite and the car was ready to race on the three wheels that *touched*
Yes, it did BEAT most of those *extra effort* cars some dads were so proud of.
(one dad actually stormed out in a huff... oh well)
Then again... the boy (different pack) who's grandpa owns a tool & die shop
and has a racetrack in the basement does seem to win year after year at
district and council races. Fast. very fast.
