Am I missing something here.. Yes Explorers is co-ed, by
national guidline.. and it is my understanding that "local groups" do
not have the option of choosing whether to be mixed or not...
((Please let us not get into a discussion her of how the LDS church uses
scouting in its own program and the "liberites" that they take))
The big issue is of course the Eagle rank... something you can earn while
an Explorer but not by only being an Explorer. Hense eliminating young
women from this goal...
I just read another message dealing with the Camp Fire program and how it
does and does not compare to BSA and I think we should all remember that
the BSA.. and the status that it holds, did not occure overnight....
There is a long history of success that has made being an Eagle Scount
mean something... there was not instant status in 1908..
What the Girl Scouts should maybe do is to look around at the two female
Supreme Court Justices... at all the women congress persons
at female athelets and other successful woman and say "hey look.. this
is what our program produces" as the BSA does with Astronauts, Gerald
Ford and Stephen Spielberg......
