Good Morning GLC Scouters,
An important meeting was held at our Council Office last night (Feb. 11th).
The Council Executive Board had a closed session meeting and vote on the
removal of Frank Barre as the Council's Scout Executive.
We heard, through the grapevine, that Frank was being held directly
responsible for the decrease in council membership and the lack of
council funds and that this was the reason for the meeting on asking
him for his resignation.
When this discussion was started, all visitors, like myself,
were asked to leave the meeting room by Tom Markham (the Council
President). Frank Barre and Paul Gendreau were also asked to leave
this CLOSED DOOR, SECRET, meeting.
Then the board had a discussion about Frank, for approximately 2 hours,
only committee members were allowed to hear the discussion and vote
on the outcome. After they discussed it, it was voted on by secret
When the meeting was reopened, to visitors, we found out that Frank
was voted out. There was more on the agenda to discuss, but Tom Markham
announced that do to the time (approximately 10:00 PM) that there wouldn't
be any further discussions. The last thing brought up before the closing,
was brought up by the "Council Award Dinner Chairman" who tried to get the
board members to support and purchase tickets to this dinner.
As an observer, I noted, many unhappy faces and discouraged people
leaving the meeting. It was like leaving a funeral.
Now the Greater Lowell Council does not have a "Scout Executive."
I hope that everyone, wishes Frank the best and that he is successful
in all of his future endeavors. Please, help show him your support during
this trying time and give him my condolences when you speak with him.
I am sure he will be missed.
This is not an official announcement on behalf of our council. It is
only my personal feelings and observations to help inform you to keep
your eyes and ears open for more changes and news to come as a
result of this meeting. If you see or hear anything further, Please
e-mail me about, Thank You.
