Today, Tuesday February 11, 1997...My daughter Kristy will be receiving
her long, long awaited Silver Award!!! I'm so proud. :-))))
She earned it last summer, and is just now getting it. (paperwork, 02,
01, SUM, field rep, council, 01, 02, plan a ceremony, find time, you know
How she earned it for those of you that don't already know was running
"Singing Trees" at our local daycamp for 150 young scouts. This
included large scale singing workshops at the camp and individual unit
visits to teach new songs and singing games.
She gleened songs from some of your posts and laid out a basic workshop,
even studied the works someone did on how to have a successful campfire
(found on one scout site-Macscouter I think). As it turned out, they
had a horrible storm and the camp got rained out, and all the girls ended
up crammed under a shelter for 2 hours. My daughter ended up keeping the
girls occupied while her songbooks were laying somewhere in a tent! As
they had to make a hasty exit to the shelter. She ended up doing most of
it of the cuff. Luckily she had done her research!
The leaders were very grateful to have the time filler as some of the
younger scouts were scared of the storm and it took their mind off the
thunder and hail. (Yes that was summer hail!) Many of the leaders were
new and in kind of a tizzy themselves as to what to do.
Anyway I just had to share...(one beaming mom :-))))))))))))))
Thanks for being there for me...after all you helped me show her a side
of scouting we don't always see first-hand.
If you should feel so compeled, I would love to pass along to her any
