This past weekend a group of boys from our Venture patrol, myself and
another adult leader participated in our annual Winter Camping weekend.
Although it only got to a low of 10F we still enjoyed the weekend. (We
were hoping for some below zero weather)
We built two quinzee's, (Kwin-Zee) the one that the boys were digging
out collapsed on one of them, but it only took about 30 seconds to dig
him out from under 4 feet of snow. The adult quinzee also collapsed but
only about 1/2 way. We slept very warm in our camp provided sub-zero
sleeping bags, and ate very well.
I happened to notice that some of the other Troops weren't all that
prepared for the weekend. If you are planning on doing any camping at
temperatures below 40F, make sure the boys are prepared. They'll have
more fun if they are dry and warm.
Oh, we also found the 'Blue Diamond'. The 'Hunt for the Blue Diamond'
is a campwide scavenger event that all the Troops can participate in.
I'd be happy to fill people in with more information if you'd like it.
